What is a strengths practitioner?

A strength’s practitioner is someone who specialises in strengths development and is an expert at working with clients to identify, explore and develop their strengths to maximum effect.  Many strengths practitioners are coaches, however, few coaches are strengths practitioners.

I already have a coach – can’t they develop my strengths?

Possibly – it depends on the training, skills and expertise of the coach.  Strengths development is a specialist area and it goes far beyond a general coach talking to you about your strengths.  It is a very specific coaching application that is evidence-based and focussed on dramatically improving performance through strengths-development in a way which is effective, energizing and authentic.

Can’t I just get a strength’s report and develop my own strengths?

In theory yes, however, our experience has been that when people buy strength’s reports and nothing else they read it, get an initial boost from it and then they file it away and forget all about it.  Whereas if you are working with a strength’s practitioner they will debrief you on your report, explore with you how your strengths work both individually and collectively and guide you through the development process so that using your strengths actually becomes an integral part of the way you work.   Without guidance, support and accountability few people make meaningful changes to their performance.  With it you stack the odds substantially in your favour that you will dramatically improve your performance.

Isn’t coaching just for people who can’t do things on their own?

No, quite the contrary, in our experience strengths coaching is used predominantly by savvy people who want to get to the next level as quickly and efficiently as possible.  The whole philosophy behind strengths development is to identify the areas that are working, understand why they are working and then to proactively apply those strengths in different contexts to increase performance.  The coaching context provides a space and thinking time for you to explore possibilities.  Think about any top sports person, musician or actor they all have coaches.

What exactly do you mean when you talk about something being a strength?

A strength is:

“a pre-existing capacity for a particular way of behaving, thinking, or feeling that is authentic and energizing to the user, and enables optimal functioning, development and performance.” (Linley, 2008)

Most people when they think of strengths think of things they are good at or find easy, however, as the quote above makes clear it is equally important to consider how it makes you feel.  True strengths are energizing and they feel an innate part of you.

You say this is all about strengths but aren’t you really going to focus on my weaknesses?

No.  We focus predominantly on your strengths because it is through your strengths that the greatest increase in your performance will come either through developing your untapped potential or turning good performance into mastery.  Focusing on weaknesses has the opposite affect on performance because it damages confidence and morale.  However, we don’t ignore weaknesses completely rather we look at the impact the weakness is having on your performance and seek to minimize it by using your strengths or the strengths of others to compensate.

What is the ideal team size for using the Realise2 team profile?

The profile can be used for teams up to 20 people.  For very small teams i.e. 1-3 people it may be more appropriate to use premium Realise2 profiles instead.

What is the difference between a standard Realise2 profile and a premium one?

A premium report will detail information on all sixty strengths whilst a standard one will show information on a maximum of 21 strengths spread across the four catergories:  realised strength, learned behaviour, weakness and unrealised strength.  The premium report is recommended when team strengths are being developed or an ambitious development programme is requested.

What is positive psychology?

Positive psychology is the area of psychology that studies optimal functioning in individuals, organisations and communities to understand the factors that contribute to human flourishing and to identify effective interventions that can be used to promote well-being.

How do I pay?

Preferred payment method is via BACS transfer following receipt of our invoice.  Private individuals are required to pay 100% of the invoice at the time of order and organisations are required to pay a 50% deposit with order with the remaining 50% payable on completion unless alternative payment arrangements have been agreed in advance.

What if I am not happy with the service?

Our reputation is extremely important to us so if you do not feel that you have gained any value from using our services we will refund the cost of your coaching.  Please note the assessment fee itself is non-refundable.  Please tell us at the earliest opportunity if you have any complaints so that we can ensure you receive at all times the service you require.

None of your programmes suit my needs can you offer a bespoke service?

Yes, please contact us to discuss your requirements and we will do our best to design something that is better suited to your particular needs.

Can I cancel sessions if I find that I no longer need them?

Yes, we only work with you for as long as you need us.  If you want to cancel a session as long as you have given us 48 hours notice you will receive a full refund on the cost of the session.  Please note there is no refund on the cost of the initial assessment once you have been provided with the access code.

What happens once I get to the end of the programme?

Once you have finished the programme you will be at the end of the intensive phase of our intervention and you will be applying your strengths in your daily life.   We will contact you every six months to arrange a  review session to ensure that you are sustaining your performance and obviously we will be available throughout the year to help with any specific issues that may arise.

Is Realise2 the only strengths programme that you use?

No, we predominantly use Realise2 because we believe it is the most comprehensive strengths assessment tool on the market and the most appropriate one for the business environment.  However, we also use the Values In Action Strengths Inventory which focuses on character strengths and can be more appropriate in non-commercial situations.
